]]> Thu, 22 Mar 2012 00:00:00 -0500 <![CDATA[CRIB LEGISLATION]]> http://www.oklahomachildcareassociation.com/m.blog/19/crib-legislation http://www.oklahomachildcareassociation.com/m.blog/19/crib-legislation In December 2010, the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) approved new crib standards.  These new crib standards affect nearly every crib in every setting in the United States and specifically impact child care providers. These new standards must be met by child care centers by December 2012. 

 

This latest proposed ban is different in that it treats child care centers(consumers) as if they were the manufacturers.  CPSC negates the millions of dollars that would be needed to replace these cribs.  From data that was collected from NCCA members, it appears that the impact of this ban would be in excess of $600 million dollars.  This is not a cost that can be passed on to families, especially in the current economy and it is not a cost that the small business child care centers can bear.

 

The deaths and injuries from  from drop-size are not happening in child care centers because of the strict licensing regulations around the supervision of children.  Sleeping babies in child care centers are not left unattended.

 

OCCA feels that this is an important issue that needs your immediate attention.
